Regional planning

A component of the strategic development of the region

Regional physical planning molds the desired structure for Tampere Region and harmonises housing, traffic, work, services, recreation and the conservation of nature and landscape with the various needs of land use.

The point of departure in land use planning is support for sustainable development. It also guides community development towards the achievement of a functional, economic, healthy and pleasant living environment equally for all sectors of the population. The physical plan further provides a solid foundation for the planning and implementation of joint projects among the municipalities.

The regional physical plan is an essential component of the strategic development of the region. Indeed, regional physical planning is long-term planning carried out by the Council of Tampere Region under the terms of the legislation on land use and construction and on regional development working together with the officials of the municipalities and sectors.

One of the key tasks in the near future will be to further the implementation of the basic solutions of the third regional plan approved by the Ministry of the Environment as a basis for the new regional plan. The Council of Tampere Region also takes an active part in many international and joint planning projects between several regional councils.
