Innovation promotion

Innovation capacity is the driving force behind the competitiveness and the attractiveness of the region. Strong interaction between research and development activities, education and business creates the foundation and the dynamics for the innovation generation.

The need for drawing up the region's innovation strategy arose from above mentioned base. Completed in February 2008, the aim of the innovation strategy for the Tampere Region is to draw attention and resources of those involved in or supporting the region's innovation system to the creation of future success factors. The strategy highlights the focus areas and aggregated measures that create the conditions for the development of innovation operations of both public and private organisations in the region.

The Council of Tampere Region has been responsible for the planning and management of the strategy process.

The partner regions of the BSR InnoReg project have agreed on key issues for the development
of innovation activities in the nonmetropolitan areas in the Baltic Sea region. The Baltic Innovation Policy Memorandum the outcome of the BSR InnoReg project cofinanced by the EU Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007–2013. The signatories of the Memorandum represent all six countries of the project consortium:

- Brandenburg, Germany
- HavellandFläming, Germany
- Kaunas Region, Lithuania
- Latvia (Latgale planning region, Kurzeme planning region, Riga planning region, Vidzeme planning region, Zemgale planning region)
- Panevezys, Lithuania
- Podlaskie Voivodeship, Poland
- Rostock Region, Germany
- South Ostrobothnia, Finland
- Tampere Region, Finland
- Tartu, Estonia

The Memorandum presents guidelines for decision makers at regional, national and EU level
regarding the promotion of innovation and international collaboration.
